Practice

Education, Ecological Learning & Transformation

Creative educational experiences connecting learners, communities, ecological awareness and meaningful action.

The practice

Education has been part of my professional practice since my initial teacher training at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. I hold a Bachelor of Primary Education, am a qualified teacher in England and am registered with the South African Council for Educators. My work brings classroom experience into conversation with visual art, design, ecological awareness, mindfulness and youth-led change. My Gaia Education postgraduate Design for Sustainability qualification supports this approach. Relevant continuing professional development includes SEND, autism, ADHD, dyslexia, trauma-informed education, adverse childhood experiences, safeguarding, child protection, mental wellbeing and inclusive education.

My educational journey has included government-school teaching in England, teaching and creative work in South Africa, and International Baccalaureate education in the Philippines. At International School Manila, the Amazing Ants and Community Garden brought children’s enquiry, ecological participation, food-growing and response to flooding into lived learning. The work integrates academic learning with imagination, practical action and children’s leadership. I have also contributed to Design for Change activity across several countries, supporting approaches that help learners feel, imagine, do and share. My Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration, completed through the University of Nicosia, extended this enquiry through research connecting literacy, mindfulness and yoga.

I can work with schools, universities, educators and community organisations to design learning programmes, ecological projects, professional development and collaborative educational experiences. My approach values learner voice, practical participation and meaningful links between education, community and the living world.
