Artivism, Performance & Creative Expression
Original performances, music, spoken word and interdisciplinary creative work for audiences, events, places and occasions.
The practice
My interdisciplinary artivism brings performance, music, poetry, spoken word, photography, painting, self-portraiture, moving image and participatory expression into action. My artistic foundations include Art and Technical Drawing at secondary school, followed by Art, Design and Technology as university majors. My Arts Council England Global Talent endorsement recognises my practice in Combined and Participatory Arts. A central strand is survivor-led creative work addressing childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence, bodily autonomy, shame, silence and violence against women and girls. My lived experience informs the work: I use my own story, voice and body as artistic material on my own terms, making space for testimony, witnessing, reflection and public conversation. The work aims to challenge the stigma that silences survivors, strengthen understanding and advocacy, and invite more compassionate responses without presenting artistic participation as a substitute for specialist therapeutic support.
Works including The Vagina in the Room, Unashamed, My Body, All Mine, Kandaka Power and Songs for Sudan demonstrate different aspects of this practice, from artistic responses to women's experiences and bodily autonomy to creative solidarity and international collaboration. My performances, creative production and public artistic exchanges have reached audiences across South Africa, Northern Ireland, Singapore, Malaysia and Dubai, while projects and international collaborations extend across Sudan, the Philippines and other contexts. The Vagina in the Room has been presented in international settings, and Songs for Sudan has brought original music and creative solidarity into public encounter. My practice also includes eartHeart, She Is, autobiographical poetry, painting, photography, moving image and installations. These works invite audiences to witness, feel, question, reconnect with their own voice and act with greater courage.
My artistic practice is supported by Arts Council England Global Talent endorsement, Arts Council of Northern Ireland support for individual artists, and my involvement as a Visiting Scholar with Queen's University Belfast's School of Arts, English and Languages. These connections bring professional artistic development, research and interdisciplinary practice into dialogue. Whether a commissioner is inviting an existing work or developing something new, I can respond to the audience, occasion, place and purpose.
